Another veto of Civil Unions and another cry to put the vote to the people.
“It would be a mistake to allow a decision of this magnitude to be made by one individual or a small group of elected officials.”- Hawaii’s governor, Linda Lingle.
Now look at this, “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a Republican form of Government…” - THE CONSTITUTION
What is a republican form of government you ask? Well it just so happens that the power is in the people’s hands WHO then VOTE for a REPRESENTATIVE to…represent (their vote) them in the state legislature.
The Civil Union bill was passed in BOTH houses by a good amount.
The only way we are a DEMOCRACY is when we vote for these people and they are then elected by popular vote.
So why are we putting this to popular vote?
Slavery, the Women’s Right to vote, and Segregation weren’t put up to a popular vote were they?
The more I sit here and think of what else I need to mention and add a sentence here and there, it makes me angrier to just think about putting someone’s rights to the vote of other people. It’s sick, annoying, and denigrating.
So for now, this was going to be a somewhat mild post, Fuck you very much, Linda Lingle.
Signed,
A GAY
